Health Spending vs. GDP

Healthcare is expensive. The United States far exceeds any other country in both average spending on health care and average spending per capita (see the next chart). Most countries are spending similar, relatively small amounts on health care on average, with some spending more per capita than others, like Germany, Canada, and Australia.

Change in Health Spending

Trends in healthcare spending show that most countries have increased their spending in healthcare over the past 7 years, though some at a greater rate than others (see the below chart). It will be interesting to understand the effect of the COVID-19 global pandemic on these trends in the near future.
